K.O. BODYWORK

RELAXATION & HEALING
ABOUT

Kat is a holistic practitioner based in Toronto, Ontario. Her training as a bodyworker has taught her many important key points about the importance of paying special attention to the body, listening to what it tells you and learning how to respond accordingly to it. Her training is grounded in eastern bodywork (Namikoshi shiatsu) as well as classic Swedish massage. Kat is always looking for new ways to learn about how to initiate healing and growth within the body by studying how we respond to both inner and outer influences. Her approach to bodywork is both gentle and thorough, with a focus on empowering clients to be inquisitive about the way they can create improvements and healing within their lives.

For both Shiatsu & Relaxation massage:

Do not eat right before your treatment.

Come in with a clear and sober mind.

Afterwards it is best to avoid strenuous exercise and any activity that will tire out the muscles. Drink plenty of water to flush out any toxins within the body. A nice added practice is drawing a warm bath with Epsom salts to help relieve any sore muscles that may ache post-session.

SHIATSU is a type of non-invasive bodywork from Japan. Shiatsu translates to "finger pressure" and uses various techniques to help aid a client in finding balance through touch by allowing the body to heal itself.

Shiatsu uses something called accupressure which is the pressure a practitioner utilizes along the body to tap into specific meridian points that allow the body's energy channels to open up more. These points are the same points that are targeted with accupuncture. This is done throughout the whole body using fingers, thumbs, palms and elbows. Sometimes within a session both passive and active stretching is incorporated in tandem with soft tissue release and joint rotations.

Traditionally done on a mat on the floor, over time this form of bodywork has been refined to allow the recipient to receive treatment on a table.
The goal of shiatsu is to aid in releasing tension and stagnant energy within the body and replenishing the parts of the body where energy has been depleted.

Relaxation Massage uses mainly principles and practices taken from classic Swedish technique. Swedish massage is an effective form of therapy aimed at relaxing the muscles and applying light pressure along the body to allow proper stimulation and circulation within the muscles. It involves the use of hands, forearms and elbows. Techniques range from the use of kneading, stroking, friction, tapping, vibration and stretching. Swedish massage incorporates long gliding strokes that will allow proper blood flow in the direction of the heart. In this type of session the client is draped with two sheets and oil or lotion is used to massage.

Relaxation massage is a style of massage that is meant to be gentle, using only light to medium pressure to promote full relaxation within the body and mind. If you've ever had a spa treatment or visited a retreat, you've likely experienced a relaxation massage. Done fluidity, this style of massage is rhythmic in nature, often allowing the recipient to feel a meditative sense of ease and calmness.
